Fedora Remix name brainstorm

Please brainstorm about what would be a great name what would best describe this Fedora Remix.

Current name “Community Fedora Remix” is too long and just cumbersome, also some of prominent Fedora developers aren’t happy that we use this name as it suggests that regular Fedora isn’t community based, so we definitely need a new name.

There are a few suggestion in original blog post and in the comments.

* Akubra Linux
Australian hat with similarities to fedoras and cowboy hats:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akubra
Gives tribute to Fedora name

* Stetson Linux
Stetson is sometimes used as a genericized term for a cowboy hat.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stetson
Gives tribute to Fedora name

* Reloaded Linux
Apt description for this community remix version of Fedora
because it appears to provide out of the box functionality.
Name was inspired from Matrix movie.

* Mintdora
Name that gives tribute to Linux Mint as inspiration for this Fedora Remix.
Not sure that Fedora guys would approve of this name, or even Mint guys, should be checked first.

* Fusion Linux
Fusion is defined as union, coalition of more items into one body, that is why it explains really nice this Fedora Remix because it is Fedora and other additions outside of Fedora. Also because RPM Fusion repository is enabled by default this name fits great. Great online quote I found: “combining of images from the two eyes to form a single visual percept” this is what would best define this Fedora Remix, two images merged into single visual percept.

* Lime Linux

* Plethora Linux
From Ancient Greek plΔ“thōrΔ“ meaning “fullness”

Go outside, walk, think about it, research it online and then suggest your best ideas here or on our mailing list.

Also please voice your opinion about names who are already suggested.

    The Idea is great.
    But it should have a more appropiate name. A name that will burn to you head πŸ˜›

    Fusion for example would be a nice name πŸ˜‰

    The idea of making a Fedora version of Mint is good idea though I think there is already a remix doing this, can’t remember the name though. Personally I don’t like the look, feel and working of Mint – the Mint Menu is horrible too.

    The third last paragraph annoyed me a bit. I do not agree that the “vanilla” or upstream versions of Gnome and *certainly not* KDE feel old or outdated. I think the default Fedora desktop feel modern and slick. At least you redeemed yourself somewhat by mentioning that Fedora has the best artwork of any distro πŸ˜‰

    If you can do one thing please — don’t get too carried away with trying to “bling” up the desktop.

    Fusion Linux sounds awesome but if that isn’t available then Akubra is the best out of the selection.

      Thank you for your comment. You are right KDE look very modern looking, but amongst most of linux guys that I talk to it is common oppinion that GNOME is sooo 20th century πŸ˜‰

      No, there are no other linux distibutions that are making Linux Mint with Fedora as a base.

      Thank you for your name suggestions.

    How about Fez ?

      Don’t know why but that remind me of some funny 80’s commedies, ping panther and the like. If others like the name I’ll put it on the board for later voting.

    How about call it beret? The name fits the whole Fedora Red Hat name, and the hat is timeless and always a big part of stylish fashion. It would signify that this is a timeless distro, so easy it can be used if your old or young. I mean just look at how the beret has made it through culture over time, this would easily signify this is something strong very stylish which is why it would be a great name. The beret today http://scottandholman.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/beret.jpg and the beret is 40s fashion http://alisonkerr.files.wordpress.com/2010/03/bacall-big-sleep-beret.jpg. A beret has always been a top fashion hat and for such a beautiful stylish distro I really believe this should be the final name. Its also a short and simple name which is what the community seems to be looking for.

      The problem with Beret is that it has a silent T at the end. People will hear about Beret Linux and go search for it but not type it in correctly.

    I think we need to keep the name short and simple, like Mint, Arch, Debian, these are names that are easily remembered and to spell.

    Take Sabayon Linux for example, as an Afrikaans speaking person in South Africa I always have difficulty trying to educate people on it, and they don’t remember it. I think the same would go for names like Plethora, Akubra and Stetson.

    I heading to a zen garden to go ponder on a name for this great idea of a Fedora remix πŸ˜›

    How about “Nifty” Linux. It’s short, sweet, catchy and the word itself means good and attractive. I arrived at the name by taking “Community” dropping everything but the last for letters and adding an “f”.
