Fusion Linux 14 is out

Fusion Linux 14 “Thorium” is officially out.

This release has been in the making for last 5 months. Work on this release started even before Fedora 14 got released, which is base for Fusion Linux 14. We had a lot of features, desktop components and overall polish to tie together into one coherent whole before making this release.

We hope that you will like this release as much as we enjoyed making it.

Here are full release notes for Fusion Linux 14:

Fusion Linux 14 “Thorium” release notes

/About Fusion Linux/

Fusion Linux is a Fedora Remix that uses a combination of free and open-source, non-free and non-open-source firmware and software, to bring the user the most advanced experience on the Linux platform.

Fusion Linux includes an outstanding theme, multimedia functionality out of the box and added desktop tweaks for better usability.

And finally, Fusion Linux is 100% compatible with Fedora. 🙂

/About this release/

Guiding principles behind this release were “Beyond Upstream” and “Multimedia Out of the Box”.

Features and highlights are:
* a brand new custom made theme
* Fusion Linux post install welcome wizard script
* Skype removed so Fusion Linux can be freely redistributed
* multimedia support out of the box (Flash, MP3 & DivX playback)
* better hardware compatibility for broadcom wireless cards
* better games selection

We put a lot of work in the brand new custom made theme. It is based on Faenza icons and Alliance GTK theme with the little Fusion touch.

Desktop highlihgts:
* mintMenu
* DockbarX
* GNOME Do
* Compiz Fusion

mintMenu and DockbarX are two GNOME panel addons that make this Linux distro unique. These are the most obvious features that you will encounter first time you login.

Software highlights:
* Chromium + Firefox 4.0
* Thunderbird 3.0
* OpenOffice 3.3
* K3b – best CD/DVD and Blu-ray burning app
* GIMP 2.7 beta, Scribus 1.4 svn, Inkscape and Blender

  7. john says:

    Wonder why you didn’t go with Libre Office? Was it just the timing?

  8. Kevin says:

    Is there an rpm for the mintmenu somewhere on disc?

  9. Debarshi Ray says:

    So what is different from stock Fedora? What is so special about the “Software Highlights”? Are those different from the packages from Fedora’s repositories?

    • valent says:

      You should look closely into our release notes you will see that there are quite a few major packages that aren’t in Fedora repos. Hint: Chromium, Firefox 4, GIMP 2.7, Scribus 1.4, etc…

  11. ElephantTalk says:

    Fusion is a bad distro because it is tainted by C#/MONO in the form of Banshee, F-Spot and GNOME Do. I’ll be sticking with Fedora without MONO as I simply don’t trust Microsoft and their Open Specification Promise.

    • valent says:

      Hi, Fusion Linux doesn’t have Mono skeptics as our target users. It is also interesting that you have problem with open source apps but didn’t mention closed source apps and flash plugin. And it is trivial to uninstall mono and all dependencies if you wish to do so.

      • ElephantTalk says:

        I don’t have a problem with open source apps, just the ones developed with C#/MONO. I don’t have MONO installed. C# implementations can still be attacked by Microsoft’s patents, no matter what the Community Promise says. Fedora got rid of its MONO apps for a reason.

        I didn’t mention closed source apps, because I don’t use them. I don’t use Flash, I’m content to wait until HTML5 kicks it into touch.
